April Member Appreciation - Georgina Ralston

This month, we celebrate our wonderful register member Georgina Ralston a meditation teacher based in Mossley, Greater Manchester. Georgina teaches meditation for all levels, aiming to make meditation accessible to anyone who would like to either start or deepen their practice and find the right practice for them.

We asked Georgina to share some information about her business, her teachings and her own meditation experience, so that you can get to know her better.

Here is what Georgina told us about her own meditation experience…

“I discovered meditation on a relaxation retreat about 15 years ago and was immediately drawn to it as a practice. However, in reality, my practice was sporadic at best. Then around five years during a particularly stressful and busy period of my life I started a daily 10 minutes meditation practice, it was something that could fit in with my lifestyle, I enjoyed and I hope would help a little. It instead transformed my life for the better. I became calmer, happier and much less anxious. I completely fell in love with it.

Still, every morning, to this day I do the same 10 minutes practice which involves some deep breaths, a light body scan and a mantra. Alongside this when I can I try and do a longer practice later in the day – sometimes an online one that I particularly like, or I may work through a programme with a meditation teacher, or attend a class”

Georgina trained with BSoM to become an externally accredited meditation teacher because…

“Through my daily practice it felt like I had discovered something magical and I started researching the science behind meditation and quite simply it was a lightbulb moment for me, that I knew I had to share this. I had a lot to learn though, so I did some research into different courses and the BSoM one looked in depth, interesting and was accredited. I felt like it would actually set me up to teach, which is a very different to just having your own personal practice”.

What she loved about the training was…

“I loved all of it! The training was so comprehensive looking into so many different aspects both of meditation as a practice and meditation as a teacher. My teacher Catherine Banks was so knowledgeable and approachable plus we got the added bonus of Sarah Presley too as one session. I also loved writing the essays, using that part of my brain to do research, draw conclusions and learn was something I was nervous about but really enjoyed”.

About Georgina’s business and classes…

My business is called Meditation & Me and runs courses and classes aiming to make meditation accessible to anyone who would like to either start or deepen their practice and find the right practice for them. As well as leading different styles of meditations, I also give tips on how people can incorporate meditation into their everyday lives. I have a mixture of regular online and in person classes, one off seasonal events and have attended festivals as a guest teacher. I’m also starting to do one-to-one sessions, and I’m really looking forward to creating bespoke classes for individuals.

Georgina’s favourite aspect of teaching is…

“Can I have two favourites? One, is the connection with the class attendees, since I started teaching I have some lovely regular attendees and them sharing the positive impact of meditation on their lives makes me so happy. And, two, I love writing new meditations, just getting inspired by something in my daily life, nature, something I’ve read or heard and creating a meditation from it.”
