Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions people ask most about meditation teacher training in the UK — course content, cost, accreditation and studying online with the British School of Meditation.

Getting Started

The British School of Meditation (BSoM) is a UK meditation teacher training provider, established in 2011 in Cheltenham. It offers a Level 3, externally accredited meditation teacher training course, delivered both in person at UK training centres and online via Zoom, leading to a recognised meditation teaching qualification.

You train on an externally accredited Level 3 course such as the one offered by the British School of Meditation. You'll need to have kept up a daily meditation practice for at least six months, have an informal chat with a trainer, complete five training days across five course units (in person or online), and submit around 50 hours of written coursework to gain your certificate.

You don't need previous teaching experience, but you should have been meditating daily for at least six months before applying. Prospective students also have an informal chat or interview with a trainer to make sure the course is the right fit before enrolling.

Email info@teaching-meditation.co.uk or download the course information pack to see upcoming dates and centres. You'll be offered an informal chat with a trainer, and once you're ready to go ahead, you enrol with a £299 deposit.

Course Content & Format

Our meditation teacher training course covers five units: understanding the benefits of meditation; the science behind meditation; meditation types and techniques (including mindfulness); delivering a meditation session and talk; and running a meditation business. Students also complete around 50 hours of written work, including worksheets, essays and a business plan.

Five training days, split into two parts (for example three days followed later by two), whether studied in person or online. Alongside the training days, students complete roughly 50 hours of independent written coursework before receiving their certificate.

Yes. The online meditation teacher training course runs live via Zoom and follows exactly the same syllabus, units and timetable as the in-person course. Students train in small groups, working together in Zoom breakout rooms, and can choose from weekday, weekend or evening course dates throughout the year.

The British School of Meditation runs face-to-face training at centres including London, Manchester and Cheltenham, alongside its fully online course via Zoom — so there are options whether you're based in a city with a centre or prefer to train from home anywhere in the UK.

Yes. All trainers have completed training in neurodiversity-informed and trauma-sensitive meditation, which shapes the content and delivery of the course. You can flag specific educational needs during registration, and BSoM works with its accreditor, Ascentis, to arrange reasonable adjustments.

Accreditation & Cost

Yes. The British School of Meditation course is a Level 3 qualification, externally accredited by Ascentis and recognised by Ofqual, the government body that regulates exams and qualifications in England.

It's a Level 3 qualification, roughly equivalent to A-level standard, awarded through Ascentis and recognised by Ofqual (the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).

The course fee is £1,794, inclusive of VAT and registration. This is payable in instalments: a £299 deposit on enrolment, followed by five further payments of £299.

After You Qualify

Graduates can join the British School of Meditation's public register of accredited meditation teachers, access ongoing continuing professional development (CPD), and stay connected with the wider BSoM community — including its podcast, The Meditation Movement, which features graduates and the work they're doing in their own communities.

Yes. In addition to the core teacher training course, BSoM offers dedicated Meditation in Education and Meditation in the Workplace courses. Graduates from any of the courses have gone on to teach in schools and colleges, workplaces and community settings, and to deliver wellbeing sessions for organisations.
