Online training

Train to be a meditation teacher in the comfort of your own home.

We are pleased to offer our Meditation Teacher Training course online.

The online Meditation Teacher training course is taught using Zoom.

The online Meditation Teacher Training we offer is a Level 3 course, externally accredited by Ascentis and recognised by Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). Because of this accreditation you can be assured that our course is taught and delivered to the highest standards.

Our online meditation course follows exactly the same timetable as if it were being taught face to face.  It consists of five Units, from looking at what meditation is to how you can set up your own business teaching people to meditate.  The course is taught over five days, divided into two blocks.

Our online meditation training course would suit you if you were unable to attend one of our centres or you prefer to do the course in the comfort of your own home. The students we have taught online still form a bond with other students on their course, as the tutor will encourage them to work together both as a group and in Zoom chat rooms.

For more information, please contact one of the tutors who will be happy to discuss our online meditation teacher training course with you.

Since lockdown in March we have run several online courses and had great feedback:

Sonia Norman - West Midlands Course 1- (Part 2)

"I was so pleased that the British School of Meditation were able to continue offering their course online. I did the second part of the course via Zoom. I feel it was a great experience, we were able to take part in group sessions to discuss things and able to experience the presentations and meditations. It was a little bit nerve-racking but I feel that would have been the case if we did it in person too!

Catherine was a great facilitator and teacher, coping with the new technical issues and helping us when needed.

I don’t feel I missed out on any course content by doing the course online."

Suzanne Burns – NW Course 3 (Part 1)

" I was a participant in Part 1 of the British School of Meditation Teacher Training course for the North West, led by Catherine Banks in April 2020. I was surprised when I found out the training was going to happen via zoom, and I was thrilled by how great the training was. By being a small group training, everyone could see each others faces on the screen which I think is an essential component as to why the online training worked. We broke off into smaller groups for discussions which was a wonderful feature. By being able to stay at home it also meant 'normal life' could continue during the training. Catherine was always mindful of making sure we had regular breaks so we were not in front of our computers for too long a period. The only tiny aspect which did not work via zoom was our chanting meditation - the power of chanting together is very much a vocal feature and a group feature. Having slight time lags in our internet speed did not matter at all during discussions or presentations but the chanting did not work so well with us being out of sync - even though only slightly. That is minuscule in the big scheme of things. I would also like to add as there is no Scottish Centre of the British School of Meditation it is a good feature for everyone living in Scotland as the courses became more accessible."

Online course struture.

1) Unit One studies the benefits of meditation

2) Unit Two looks at the scientific evidence to support the benefits of a daily meditation practice, and students are asked to give a short talk on the benefits of meditation

3) Unit Three looks at types and techniques of meditation including mindfulness

4) Unit Four asks students to demonstrate their ability to lead a meditation session

5) Unit Five looks at how you can develop your meditation business

The course is comprehensive looking at all aspects of teaching meditation. We discuss what meditation is and isn’t, then study the benefits of meditation to you and in general. We look at 10 different types and techniques of meditation. We look at the scientific evidence that support the many benefits of a daily meditation practice.

We ask you to do two presentations in the second part of the course. A short talk on a benefit of meditation and to deliver a short meditation script that you have written.

In unit Five we look in detail at how you would go about setting up your meditation business. This is a very important part of our course and one which students have found extremely useful when starting their businesses.

You will be expected to complete about 50 hours of written work as well. This will consist of completing worksheets, writing essays and putting together a business plan. The course is comprehensive and looks at all areas of meditation teaching.

The course is taught in two parts, Units 1,2 and 3 in the first part; units 4 and 5 in the second part. Assignments are set for you to complete before the second part of training. You will be asked to prepare and deliver a short script on a benefit of meditation, and a short meditation.

The British School of Meditation has been established to train teachers in meditation techniques to meet the growing demand for highly trained and accredited meditation teachers throughout the UK including: the Midlands, South West, Wales, North West, North East, London and the South East.
