I joined the School of Meditation in Holland Park In 1984 where I learnt to practice the Vedic technique of meditation. That first experience of connecting with the silence and stillness that lies deep within all of us was one of the most profound experiences I have ever had. I found that meditation gave me a much needed framework which enabled me to assess and reflect on my lifestyle and make much needed changes. I also discovered that the beauty of meditation practise was not just the sitting in silence for 40 minutes, as part of the sessions at the SOM, but also how it directed me to be more mindful in day to day living, to truly experience each and every activity of the day and strive to 'just be in the moment'.

In 2013, I enrolled on a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course. It reminded me of the joy and feeling of wellbeing that a mindful way of living brings. I then started to become interested in teaching meditation and found the BSoM. Once again meditation was to change the course of my life. The course was truly inspirational. It is exceptionally well planned and comprehensive and I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment - even the coursework! It was important for me that I found a reputable course which gave me a recognised qualification. The BSoM offer of expert training accredited by Ascentis, with a qualification recognised nationally by the Government agency, OFQUAL, was exactly what I was looking for. I was extremely proud when I gained by diploma with a distinction.

I originally trained as a teacher over twenty years ago. My specialist subject and passion is PSHE (Personal Social Health Education). I then went on to become a consultant and trainer working with schools, supporting them to develop a whole school approach to the health and wellbeing of both pupils and staff and in achieving Healthy Schools accreditation.

For me being a meditation teacher pulled all of the skills and knowledge I have gained over the years as a teacher and trainer which brought me full circle back to meditation. I am really looking forward to sharing my experience and providing training and support to those wishing to become an accredited Meditation Teacher.

The South East courses are offered from our home just outside Herne Bay, 4 miles east of Whitstable along the coast, and 9 miles from Canterbury. The Old Cottage is a grade 11 listed building and an historic building of Kent, dating back to the very early 1600s. The cottage has a number of original features, and an extension that was built on in the 1920s which includes the sun room we use for our courses. The sun room opens on to the garden, extending the space and benefitting from the big skies and beautiful light and air you find in this part of the country. The sea is about 500 metres down the road, and the sunsets are well worth waiting for. If you wish to stay overnight we can recommend a number of places to stay, visit and eat.

Testimonials

"I have just completed my Meditation Teacher Training – South East Course with Mary Neilson. It was the first time she had delivered the course via zoom and given the Covid-19 situation I was apprehensive about completing the course this way. I have to say it was a most enjoyable experience. Mary shared not only knowledge, wisdom and content for the course but even online, her passion for mediation was clearly felt. Mary has a natural way of teaching that makes you feel relaxed from the outset and she has the most perfect voice for delivering meditations. Please do not let the fact that currently the course is being delivered this way. You will receive just as much guidance, learning, interaction and support as you would do face to face. I am privileged to be able to share the knowledge I have received from Mary and continue to make a difference to people in the world. Thank you"

Thank you to you, once again Mary, and the whole team at BSoM for your guidance and teaching.

Best wishes Charlotte John
