About us

The British School of Meditation has been established to meet the growing need for accredited, qualified meditation teachers. Our accreditation is valid throughout Europe.

External Accreditation and OFQUAL Recognition

One of the real benefits of training with the British School of Meditation is that the course is fully externally accredited by Ascentis, which has merged with our former accrediting body, AptEd.

Ascentis was originally established in 1975 as OCNW, a co-operative scheme between Universities and Colleges of Further Education. OCNW was the first ‘Open College’ in the UK and served the needs of its members for over 34 years. Throughout this period, OCNW grew yet maintained its independence in order that it could continue to respond to the requirements of its customers and provide a consistently high standard of service to all centres across the country and in recent years to its increasing cohorts of overseas learners.

Ascentis is distinctive in that it is both an Awarding Organisation, regulated by Ofqual and an Access Validating Agency for “Access to Higher Education” Programmes, licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.

The Meditation School was set up by Helen Galpin and Mary Pearson in 2011 and from the very beginning we said meditation teacher certification with us had to have external accreditation. The certificate also has Ofqual recognition.

There are different ways to train as a meditation teacher and get meditation teacher certification but getting a qualification that is externally accredited shows that you have done a course that has been recognised by an external examination body.

Meditation teacher certification with BSoM not only gives you validation from a nationally recognised organisation but the added quality assurance that the certificate has been awarded Ofqual recognition. Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation)is the government body regulating all exams and qualifications.www.ofqual.gov.uk  Achieving Ofqual recognition was very important to us and shows how seriously we take the business of training teachers to the highest standards.

Our accreditation covers all of Europe not just the UK

The benefit to you of studying with us to gain a meditation teaching qualification is that you would have the advantage of being able to approach schools and businesses about teaching meditation. You would be able to show them that your certificate is not only accredited but also has Ofqual recognition. This will help you to stand out as a fully qualified meditation teacher.

So there is a real benefit to you in choosing the BSoM as your training provider.
